We’re changing our name!

Just a heads up……

We are in the process of changing our name to Friends of Olympic Valley to best reflect our main focus now that Alterra and Placer County have removed “Squaw” from the every aspect of the Valley.

This has been quite the ordeal. We first applied to change the name on our 501C to “Friends of Olympic Valley” and we were rejected by the California Sec of State as we were told that the name “Olympic” was owned by the U.S. Olympics. We then went to the Olympic Committee they said no. Crazy… Olympic Valley is the name of our post office, our main street, etc.

We then decided to create a “Friends of Olympic Valley” DBA (Does Business As) and our bank told us we would need a letter from the California Sec of State approving the change. Gave up on that bank!

Finally, we went to Placer County and showed them that they have already allowed over 20 “Olympic Valley” DBA’s and they approved our request. We are now in the process of advertising the name change (takes 4 weeks of advertising in a newspaper no one reads).

So hopefully over the next 30 days we will be allowed to officially be renamed to Friends of Olympic Valley. We will then begin the process to change our Facebook page, website and follower email list.

Without getting political – it was time to change. And in hindsight, our new name Friends of Olympic Valley, better reflects our advocacy for protecting the valley and land we love.

Please stick with us as our charter and goals remain the same…. Making Olympic Valley the best place to live, visit and play!
