More than one year ago, the OV Firewise Council started a community effort to get a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) created for Olympic Valley. At the same time, the Council began to ask the Public Service District (PSD) to get more involved in Wildfire Mitigation activities and planning (in addition to the annual inspections of residential and commercial properties) .

Since then, the PSD has spent considerable time and effort in managing the CWPP consultants, in surveying what our neighboring communities (Truckee, Northstar, North Lake Tahoe, Incline Village) have done in this area, and determining what a comprehensive Fuels Management Program would entail in terms of cost and labor.

As you may be aware, two recent tax measures have raised dedicated funds for Fuels Management in Truckee and Northstar, both passing with large majorities.
