Olympic Valley to Hold Firewise Organizational Meeting

Residents reducing wildfire risks

On Tuesday, December 17th at 2 pm, the Friends of Olympic Valley and Squaw Valley Property Owners Association are sponsoring an open meeting at the Public Service District Community Room (305 Squaw Valley Rd) to explore establishing a Firewise USA program for the Valley.

The meeting is open to all residents interesting in establishing this program for the Valley. This is a direct follow-up to the wildfire evacuation drill held in September.

The Firewise USA program is designed to empower and engage residents living in wildfire prone areas with a plan and actions that can increase their home’s chances of surviving a wildfire. There are over 1500 Firewise USA sites across the United States.

Luana Dowling, the Placer County Firewise program liaison, will be participate and available to answer any questions residents might have.  Representatives of the Olympic Valley Fire Department and Public Service District will also be on hand.

The Firewise USA® program is co-sponsored by the USDA Forest Service, the U.S. Department of the Interior, and the National Association of State Foresters.
