Community Wildfire Protection Plan – Funding Update

At the Olympic Valley Public Service District Board meeting this past Tuesday, Nov.17, the  Board voted to give Mike Geary, General Manager, authority to spend up to $10,000 in support of the project to develop a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) for Olympic Valley. This support is in addition to the funds already committed by Squaw Valley Ski Holdings, the Resort at Squaw Creek, and the Olympic Valley community via the Firewise/Friends of Olympic Valley GoFundMe effort. With these commitments the CWPP project is now fully funded.

Moreover, the PSD agreed that they would finalize the agreement with the contractor, Deer Creek Resources (DRC), as well as have the Olympic Valley Fire Department manage the project and interface with the DRC representatives doing the actual work. The project is scheduled to begin around April 2021 and take about one year.

The Firewise Council wishes to thank everyone who contributed to the successful GoFundMe effort. Contributions above our target of $5000 will be designated for other firewise projects next season (e.g. chipping days and green waste days). More discussion on these other projects will be forthcoming next spring.
