Alpine Meadows Residents Object to Gazex Devices
Alpine Meadows residents object to additional Gazex devices
At this month’s NTRAC (North Tahoe Regional Advisory Council), the question of the additional Gazex avalanche control devices specified in the Base to Base Gondola draft Environmental Impact Report (dEIR) was brought up. At the last Planning Commission review meeting on the dEIR, the Gazex was one of the principal subjects commented upon.
Specifically, Alpine Meadows residents objected to the inclusion of additional Gazex devices in the plan based on the noise and upset that the current ones cause.
Jennifer Montgomery, Placer County Supervisor, made the following statement:
She (“Jennifer”) had met with the interim head of Squaw (Ron Cohen) and made it clear that the county would not be processing any more Gazex applications until more information was received on the effects of the Gazex and potential mitigation efforts to lesson some impacts.
