Because any development proposal would still be subject to public scrutiny, FoOV supports development that is sustainable, environmentally focused, and culturally consistent with our historic community, as well as compatible with a mountain environment and with amenities that can be used by locals and visitors alike.
Going forward, FoOV is advocating for the following:
- Earlier implementation of proposed improvements to Squaw Creek adjacent to the current Village parking lot and full implementation of a hiking and biking trail system in the Valley
- Purchasing land for public use that is not controlled by either the Ski Corp or Placer County
- Finding a permanent location for Olympic Valley’s Creekside Charter School
- Eliminating the ‘water park’, downsizing the Mountain Activity Center (MAC), and creating a recreation center with a swimming pool and features that are compatible with mountain sports
- Reducing development in Shirley Canyon
- Increasing the amount of employee housing in the Village to truly house 50% of full-time employees
- Developing a state-of-the-art evacuation and “shelter in place” plan and facility for the Valley in case of wildfire
- Eliminating (or relocating to a less objectionable location) a roller coaster (the “Twister”) in the Valley
- Increasing the number of Valley residents on the Ski Corp’s Community Benefit Foundation board
FoOV is seeking a collaborative approach with all Olympic Valley stakeholders to the above goals. Working together with all concerned parties, there will be opportunities to create community in ways never thought possible before.
We hope you support these endeavors.
